About

Dr. Tonya Yanok, PT, DPT – Owner, Operator, Physical Therapist

Physical Learning & Health (PLH), LLC was founded in October 2015, and later rebranded as Yanok PT in 2017. The mission is to treat clients in a setting that allows for true one-on-one care at the convenience of the location of the client’s choice. With large health insurance deductibles, rising co-pays, and shrinking coverage and reimbursement from insurance companies for rehabilitation services, many physical therapy clinics are forced to reduce one-on-one patient care time. However, by removing insurance companies from the equation, Yanok PT isn’t limited by restricted insurance coverage and doesn’t need the support staff to haggle with the paperwork and insurance providers. Also, by having thorough, truly one-on-one treatments, in many cases the client can experience improvement with less visits.

ProfessionalHeadshotDr. Tonya Yanok began to have an interest in pursuing a new career when she became more active as a young adult, playing indoor soccer and then roller derby, and wanted to do something to help people achieve and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. At the time she was pursuing her career in graphic design and marketing, but had realized sitting behind a desk wasn’t for her. Her journey eventually led her to find physical therapy, graduating with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Cleveland State University in 2013.

In her year and a half leading up to starting her own business, she worked for a private practice clinic, in which time she became proficient with sacroiliac joint dysfunction and dry needling, in addition to general orthopedic rehabilitation.

In 2015 she also became certified in pelvic health rehabilitation and works part-time at a local clinic treating pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and pelvic pain. Although internal assessments are not currently offered through Yanok PT, Dr. Yanok does include discussion of pelvic health when it is applicable with her clients and can offer guidance on any treatments that need to be sought out.

She currently stays very active and participates in a variety of sports and activities, including trail running, mountain biking, aerial silks, snowboarding, and standup paddle boarding, just to name a few! She thrives on showing others how they can lead a healthy and fun lifestyle, with an emphasis on fun!

During the day Lee is a practicing dentist, a degree which requires courses in medical physiology, anatomy and biochemistry.  This background allows her to read and interpret research and to apply it to her training and nutrition with the help of a couple physical therapists to keep her in check!

Lee has recently decided to make her passion a professional endeavor, joining forces with Yanok PT to provide comprehensive coaching for runners.  Trail and ultra runners will likely be better served by this service than road runners but she is willing to work with you on road racing plans as well. Many techniques and key workouts carry over or translate well. With this combination, you not only get a personalized training plan with unlimited communication with Lee each month, but you also get troubleshooting from a doctor of physical therapy as ailments arise to ensure training plans can be immediately modified, and not stopped, as needed.
